Poem for a newborn grandson, born to an Aussie dad and an American mum.

KAI

For Ari a brother,
A soul-mate for sure.
Your arrival a blessing
We could ask for no more.

The Stars and the stripes,
The Southern Cross too,
Will mingle together
Your whole long life through.

Conceived from two cultures,
Conjoining as one,
May your life be fulfilling
Rewarding and fun.

You’ve parents who love you
To show you the way,
With grandparents a plenty
Who too have a say.

Your family surrounds you
Both close and afar,
May we all guide you,
Our new little Star.

Tongue in cheek poem for a 'Mash' fanatic, winemaker's 50th birthday

Bas-Armagnac Castarede 1957

“For John, Winemaker extraordinaire”

Like superb French wine your years have flown,
Along with “Mash” your name has grown.
It’s fifty years since you were born
What you’ve achieved nobody can scorn.

Whether it’s port, shiraz or fine red cherries
The wine you make leaves us all quite merry.
At cellar door your client’s all rave
About your wines and the cash they save.

Next year at the “Cup” in Melbourne Town
It’ll be your bubbles they pass around.
So we wish you well when vintage is done,
With many happy returns for years to come.

“Happy fiftieth”

Wotsit all about?

Have you ever thought about giving a husband, wife, son, daughter or grandchild a personalised poem as a gift, or having an extensive personal profile written about you?

I have had articles on characters and wineries in the Yarra Valley published in 'Yarra Valley Country Life' magazines, and an article on the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires published in the prestigious Australia wide 'Selector' magazine.

I was resident poet at my work place and wrote comical pieces for workmates on their retirement, birthdays etc.

For $100 I will provide a a four stanza poem for interested clients with the option of extending it to your desired length for an extra $20 per verse.

Clients will be provided with a pro-forma to ensure the piece is relevant to the recipient. Two drafts will be presented for comment prior to a final draft.

A $50 non-refundable deposit will be required at booking.

Extended personal profiles of a 1000 word minimum are available at 40 cents per word. See the post on Australian actor John Wood and Yarra Valley winemaker Wally Zuk as samples of my work. (Both published)
A $100 non-refundable deposit is required for a profile. An hour interview is required so clients will need to either reside in Melbourne Australia, or be prepared to pay for a 30-60 minute telephone contact.

Contact Writer's Block at geoffgcooper@bigpond.com for further information or to begin organising your very special gift.
